The American Council for Patient Liberty focuses on the principle that powers that have been granted to the 50 states cannot be superseded by the Federal Government if the result is a reduction in personal rights. The Council has been formed with the purpose of exposing elected officials who are working to thwart the wishes of voters by using back channels and unsubstantiated speculation to usurp the implementation of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act signed into law by Gov. Janice K. Brewer on December 14, 2010.

Officials using federal preemption as an excuse are asking the Governor to violate the Voter Protection Act, which is now embedded in the Arizona Constitution. The Council will raise awareness of these issues and will seek contributions for negative political advertising and recall campaigns against state and county elected officials who are interfering in the relationship between patients, their physicians, and any dispensing facilities that are licensed by the State.
